Internet Safety Tips for Everyone Q&A

Q&A about Internet Safety tips for Everyone

You can watch this as it was on YouTube via this link: https://youtu.be/MLqbHb1bj94

  1. No browser is the king of safety so you have to protect yourself by paying attention to what you click on. Only go to https sites
  2. Consider safety based plugins like WOT (Web of Trust) which shows you the reputation of a site you are visiting. Usually if they don’t have a reputation, I won’t click on the link. This is especially true in Google Search
  3. Hover over links in emails. Is the link legit or is it nefarious?
  4. Set all of the privacy settings you can in your browser chrome://settings/security Privacy, Safe Browsing, Safety check, Cookies
  5. Make sure your antivirus is up to date
  6. When possible, use a throw away email address for things you aren’t sure you really want so you can protect your preferred account.
  7. Use Firefox with Facebook if you really want to fake our Facebook as to where you are location wise, plus it will sandbox Facebook so it isn’t able to track you as easily.
  8. Don’t tell social media any more than you absolutely have to. You don’t have to give them your home address and phone number, you don’t have to tell them your relationship status.
  9. This one takes a lot of effort, creating a completely fake persona. Fake address, fake name, Facebook thinks I live in Walla Walla Washington. Same with Instagram
  10. Super strong passwords. You a password keeper like 1password.com
  11. If something sounds too good to be true, it is. Watch out for phishing attacks.
  12. If you use public internet a lot, consider using a VPN product like NordVPN or ExpressVPN (I have not used these two products but websites I trust recommend them)
  13. Never visit your financial sites while on public wifi like at Starbucks or your favorite library. Too many hackers use these to spoof wifi and fake you into their own wifi so they can sniff your information such as logon credentials.
  14. If your bank or credit card offers the option of a virtual credit card number, use this when shopping. Capital One and Bank Of America for example can create one time use credit card numbers so that should your credit card number fall into the wrong hands, it won’t be worth much to them.

Chapter 2

Bible Translation for unreached people groups. I talk about seeing an app that is the Bible translated for a group that previously did not even have a written language.
